"creating is healing"
Community Mural
April 2023.
St. Olaf College had a day of healing in light of a terroristic threat to our campus community. In collaboration with the Flaten Art Museum, Jessenia M. Prado and I planned and hosted a collaborative mural for our community. We created a space that offered art making as an outlet to heal and to reflect.
The material was upcycled from a painting originally created for the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize Forum by Professor Emeritus of Art and Art History Wendell Arneson. The Honorable Jimmy Carter, 39th president of the United States and the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, addressed thousands of students, faculty, and distinguished guests while standing in front of this canvas. The mural is now up in the Fireside lounge at St. Olaf College.
